Energy Minister Peter Amewu has called the dismantling of a tower of anti-patriotism and blatant sabotage against the Akufo-Addo administration.

During a tour of the transmission tower sites of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) in Tema, the minister expressed his disappointment at the action but badured that the authors, if any, did not would not go unpunished.

He claimed that the ministry had gathered information that "a complete sabotage was committed and that I will not exclude a political motive for sabotage," he told Evans Mensah in Joy's Top Story. FM.

GRIDCo workers went to the site on Monday to find that the pylon had been felled.

The bolts and nuts holding one of the pylons together were removed after what appears to be a bath consisting of a corrosive bath of parts of it.

This will soften the metal and facilitate the removal of bolts and nuts.

But this is not the only pylon that has been targeted. It appears that other pylons on the site were also coated with substance to facilitate the removal of the bolts after a certain time.

The photos captured by Joy News show the pylon falling to the side and resting on the others on the site, a development that may affect the power supply of most areas of Tema and surrounding areas.

The CEO of GRIDCo, Jonathan Amoako-Baah, who confirmed the incident, said he was shocked by the reason why someone could do this in the country.

Mr. Amewu is equally worried. He suspects some people of doing so to tarnish the image of the Akufo-Addo administration, especially at a time when the country is experiencing power cuts.

"How can human beings do this to our homeland? Any political party badociated with such an activity is not worthy of being in our country.

"We have already detected that chemicals are placed on all the towers of this line. The intention is to destroy them in the future. What deserves someone to do that, we can not subject our own country to that, "he cried.

He revealed that an internal committee had been set up at GRIDCo to investigate the matter.

The Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police and National Security also conducts separate investigations into the issue to help apprehend the culprits.

Meanwhile, security at all GRIDCo installation sites across the country is strengthened to prevent similar events from occurring.

Corrosive substances are also washed pylons.

Member of the Committee on Mining and Energy in Parliament, Adam Mutawakilu also condemned this development, but hopes that the scope of investigations is broadened.

He criticized the minister for alleged political sabotage while there was no evidence to confirm his claims.

"The minority condemns it unequivocally and, looking in the face, I prefer that we do it in a non-political way, because as soon as you try to solve political problems, it turns out to be something else.

"And I want to believe that the issue of not excluding political sabotage is not the minister who is supposed to say it. I thought that he would have left it to the investigators to reveal those who provoked it after their investigations, "he said.
