The boys were traveling from Atlanta to Manila, where their father is based on temporary work, according to the TV channel. Rakesh Patel said his 15- and 16-year-old sons traveled alone after visiting their sick grandfather.

The family told WSB-TV that she had informed Delta Air Lines in advance that the teenager was allergic to peanuts. Delta ensured that during the first leg of the flight, from Atlanta to Seoul, no peanuts were served, WSB reported.

However, things were different during the second stage of their flight. When the boys boarded their sister Korean Air's Korean Air, they learned that peanuts would be served on board, the television channel reported.

According to the family, the crew members stated that they would not deprive peanuts of other guests and offered teens two options: managing peanuts or getting off the flight.

When the son with allergies asked for another option, the boys were forcibly removed from the plane and stranded in Seoul, confirmed their father. They took a round-trip flight to Atlanta, the family told WSB.

Patel said that he had filed a complaint with the airline and asked for a refund.

In a statement, Delta apologized to the Patel family for this ordeal, "especially during a difficult time for them."

"Delta and our partner Korean Air communicate with the family and review the processes surrounding this incident. We will use our results in our work to create a consistent customer experience for Delta and our airline partners, "the statement said.

One statement from Korean Air stated: "Korean Air is aware that peanut and food allergies are a sector issue and no airline can guarantee an environment free from food allergies. But we are looking at ways to deal with this problem safely and practically. We fully understand the risks to which pbadengers with food and nut allergies are exposed and we will certainly try to better manage them in the future. "
