Government and Malta sign memorandum of understanding for partnership building

The government and Malta have signed five memoranda of understanding for the establishment of partnerships between the two countries.

The signing ceremony took place on Tuesday during President Akufo-Addo's official visit to Malta, where he held bilateral talks with his Maltese counterpart, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

The agreements between the governments and Malta are as follows: (1) a protocol of agreement on medicine; (2) Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Air Services; (3) memorandum of understanding on the prevention of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion with respect to taxes on income; (4) protocol of agreement on tourism; and (5) Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation.

Speaking at a luncheon held in his honor, President Akufo-Addo said the agreements "will serve as a solid springboard for more dynamic and dynamic commitments in key sectors of our respective economies."

Thanking President Coleiro-Preca for the warm hospitality reserved for him, President Akufo-Addo said that the visit of his Maltese counterpart to Ghana was the first visit of a President-in-Office of the Republic of Malta in July 2017. This is the first time a Maltese president has visited a country south of the Sahara.

"Your visit has strengthened the already good relations between our two countries and we welcome the decision to locate the first resident mission of Malta, in sub-Saharan Africa, to Ghana," he added.

As members of the Commonwealth and the United Nations, with governance structures respectful of human rights, the rule of law and principles of democratic accountability, President Akufo-Addo urged Malta and Ghana to continue to cooperate effectively at the international level. , to create a safer and more secure world.
