CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – A student at Stanly County High School has died of bacterial meningitis, according to officials from Stanly County School District.
In one note, the school system sent the parents home. According to them, the student who had attended South Stanly High School would be the only confirmed case of bacterial meningitis.
"Although we firmly believed that it was only one event of the disease, we wanted to make sure that all parents were informed of the situation so that they could respond to any health problem as soon as possible, "said a statement sent to parents.
The school district has already contacted the health department, who informed him that there was no preventative action to be taken.
"As a precaution, we will send home information about bacterial meningitis with your student," the statement said. "If you think your student has symptoms related to bacterial meningitis, please consult your health care provider immediately."

Parents, this message is meant to inform you that there has been a confirmed case of bacterial meningitis at South Stanly High School. We contacted our local health department who indicated that there are currently no preventative measures to be taken by the school. However, as a precaution, we will send your student information about bacterial meningitis. If you think your student has symptoms of bacterial meningitis, please consult your health care provider immediately. Although we firmly believed that it was only one case of the disease, we wanted to make sure that all parents were aware of the situation so that we could react quickly to any health problem. If you have any questions, you can contact our school nurse by calling the school.
