The defender has been missing since December but should strengthen the chances of the Reds Premier League after returning to work with the first team

Joe Gomez is approaching a comeback after nearly four months following a leg injury, Liverpool defender having resumed training.

Gomez, 21, needed an operation following a broken leg during his team's victory at Burnley on Dec. 5.

The England international had made 12 Premier League matches before the setback, but manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Gomez was close to the return.

"It's okay, Joe is no longer injured and almost fit," Klopp told the club's website on Tuesday.

"He will not participate in the afternoon training because he has to do something else, he has to work on his stamina, it's like that and the boys must always do, like Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain] had to do it when he was finally back to training.

"After a long time, I think Joe has been away for 15 weeks, which is long, so he needs to rebuild the basics for the rest of the season."

Oxlade-Chamberlain is expected to return to his full training next week after suffering a knee injury last April.

Liverpool resumes its campaign in the league with a clash at home at Tottenham on Sunday.

Gomez has not played since his injury to Turf Moor in a challenge with Burnley's Ben Mee, interrupting the fine season of the young English international.

First-choice player for the opening game of the season, the 21-year-old was admirably performing alongside Virgil van Dijk. September.

He has made 59 appearances with the Reds since signing Charlton Athletic in 2015.
