The big European clubs reiterated that they would refuse to participate in the new Gianni Infantino Club World Cup – without excluding the possibility of changing their minds for future editions if their needs were met.
Following its general meeting in Amsterdam, the European Association of Clubs announced that its members would remain firm and oppose the new global competition of 24 clubs that FIFA wishes to organize in 2021 in place of the Confederations Cup .
The World Club Cup, traditionally a warm-up event for the World Cup itself, currently has only seven teams and is one of the most underrated FIFA competitions in its current form. Infantino, which has made the new competition a milestone in the history of football, ideally hopes that eight of the clubs come from Europe, generating a significant increase in revenue for both parties.
