Bolton Wanderers informed staff that a takeover had been "approved in principle" 72 hours before hosting the Queens Park Rangers at Macron Stadium.

According to reports in the Bolton News, Trotters staff members received an email informing them that an agreement could be reached.

According to journalist Marc Iles, the club aims to reach an agreement in the next 48 hours.

The identity of a potential buyer is kept secret at this point, but it is believed that a new owner could be in place as early as this weekend.

This is obviously good news for a club that fears the worst.

The championship wrestlers have faced all sorts of financial problems, with the club struggling to pay for running costs and overhead costs, including player and staff salaries.

Owner, Ken Anderson, has not concealed his desire to sell the club, but with things breaking point, it seems that a wind-up order for the club could be the only remaining solution – to unless a last minute sale can be agreed.

This is due to various unpaid debts, including at least £ 1.2 million due to HMRC as well as many other debts to other providers.

Bolton Wanderers last Wednesday before the High Court a petition for liquidation that could have put the club under administration, or even its liquidation.

However, they received a two-week lifeline to finalize a takeover agreement with "an unidentified potential buyer".

All those badociated with Bolton Wanderers will hope and pray that this time an agreement can be reached.
