The suspects
The Gomoa Ojobi District Police Command arrested two people related to the robbery, a mobile money salesman in Gomoa Fetteh, in the central region.
Both; Yaw Danso, 24, and Daniel Amoo, 21, attacked salesgirl Kate Aidoo on March 25 and gave her a substance that would be acidic.
The attack, around 11 pm, caused burns to the face and chest.
"She was transferred to Korle Bu University Hospital due to the extent of her injuries," said Ojobi District Police Chief, DSP David Osei Fofie, at Citi News.
He added that the two attackers would be charged.
According to early indications, they would have taken advantage of the isolation of the victim to attack and steal.
Lax security of mobile money merchants
We know that mobile money traders across the country lack adequate security despite the large amounts they manage.
Mobile Money Agents have gone from 136,000 in 2016 to 194,000 in 2017 and call for increased security.
But the limited police presence makes this impossible.
In Accra, for example, after a series of attacks on vendors, Accra Regional Police Chief, DCOP George Alex Mensah, admitted that it was impossible for him to provide adequate security for all mobile money companies.
"They pop up in any corner and these armed robbers make meat, so it's a concern for the police department … We have scheduled a meeting with the telecoms if we can discuss the best way to make sure at least that anyone will set up this money business will have a secure environment. Some of them even work on bicycles and are easy prey for armed robbers, "he said.
