A Ugandan rapper was asked to leave his microphone because he is too young to play.

Youth Minister Florence Nakiwala told the BBC that the country's labor laws stipulated that no one under the age of 18 should work.

In a TV interview on Uganda's NBS channel, she also warned that if rapper Fresh Kid, 7, disobeys the law, he could face a juvenile prison.

Child labor has been difficult to eliminate by the authorities, reports Catherine Byaruhanga of the BBC in the capital.

Children are regularly seen working on farms, small businesses and street vendors, she says.

Ms. Nakiwala said she was concerned that Fresh Kid, whose real name is Patrick Ssenyonjo, missed school because he was always busy working when other children of his age were studying.

But his manager insists that the star child has continued to go to school.

Francis Kamoga told the BBC that the rapper only plays on Saturdays and Sundays and that he has only had two concerts, a music video and three songs since the beginning of the year.

He added that he was not working and that he was not paid.

"I found him in a rural village miming songs, I took him to town and started paying school fees," he said.

The star addresses the critics in her latest song, Banteka, where he tells a mix of luganda and slang about the fact that people are telling rumors that he will not go to school:

"They underestimate me because of my age, I hear what you say: ask him" will he study? "

"Losers cry and call their mothers If you are afraid of me, get me some money I am the judge I do not discriminate Even if you are of stone age I'll flay you. "

People on Twitter have criticized the politician for harming the child's prospects.
