The Ghana Parliament has adopted and approved the Right to Information Bill.

The bill was finally adopted after its third reading on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. It therefore remains for President Nana Akufo-Addo to give her the presidential badent fully recognized as law.

The RTI bill had been in Parliament for almost two decades. Civil society and the media have contributed significantly to the pbadage of the bill.

The RTI Act will provide for the implementation of the constitutional right to information held by the public and certain private institutions, subject to the necessary derogations compatible with the protection of the public interest in a democratic society.

It will also promote a culture of transparency and accountability in public affairs.

It was one of the main campaign promises of the new Patriotic Party (NPP) in power in the 2016 elections.
