The Krokrobite Traditional Council of Ga South Municipality is asking the PDS, the energy distribution service, to restore power to Kokrobite Township.

The community has been out of power for almost two weeks, after a PDS employee who went to help with his feeding problem was injured by a resident.

Residents suspect that they are being punished by PDS for the attack on the employee.

According to the traditional council, they are putting in place measures to help the police apprehend the culprit of the attack.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Kokrobite leader, Nii Ayinsah Sasraku III, said the council had officially written to PDS to plead and ensure the safety of its staff in the region.

"It's been almost two weeks now and the people in my neighborhood are suffering. A person should not create a problem for the community. So, we are very serious about getting that [gentleman who committed the offence] be treated in accordance with the law. "

"My subjects and the MP are working together to make a commitment that this never happens again and that the problem is solved once and for all. This is the request for PDS and we have signed a bond of good conduct. We are waiting for an answer from them. We therefore appeal to the authorities to resolve our power, "he added.

Attack

Gershon Asiedu, a 39-year-old PDS staff member, was wounded by knives as he was working with his colleagues to restore power to some area customers.

He was then sent to Korle-Bu University Hospital for surgery and further treatment.

An official complaint was then lodged with the Kokrobite Police Station.

The police are still working with the PDS Ghana Limited and local authorities to identify and arrest a middle-aged man who allegedly committed the crime.

Do not attack our workers in the field – PDS appeals to Ghanaians

Earlier, the PDS had urged the public to refrain from attacking its workers when they were on official business.

Fred Baimbill-Johnson, head of public relations for the West Accra region of PDS, in an interview with Citi News, urged the public to collaborate with the staff of the electricity company.

"For us, what we are asking for is more collaboration. We are asking the public to realize that we want them to have more power. Such cases make it difficult for our team to work in such communities, "he added.
