A summer spent photographing a deer family earned a man from Edinburgh the Scottish Nature Photographer of the Year Award in 2018.
Phil Johnston's winning picture, Roe Kid Flower, was taken near his home.
He said, "I love nothing more than getting into the sticks with my camera, seeing all the beauty around me and doing my best to capture those moments in time.
"That evening, early July, I had already spent several hours with the family of eggs, but I had also seen a fox.
"I decided to try my luck on a narrow track that connects hedgerows and farmland where I had already seen the fox several times.
"After about an hour, I heard a rustle in the long grbad and I did not see a fox come out, but a deer, he pulled out some parsley flowers and started nibbling.
Mr. Johnston added, "I made three or four images before it disappeared into the dense meadow – it was a magical moment to see."
The ninth annual nature photography awards in Scotland have attracted nominations from professional and amateur photographers from around the world.
Judges Raymond Besant, Jamie Grant and Niall Irvine selected winners in the following categories: environment, botany, abstraction, wildlife and landscape.
Mr. Besant, wildlife cameraman based in Orkney, said: "This photo has this little something extra that you are always looking for in an image of wildlife.
"There is so much to love about it, it ticks all the basic boxes I'm looking for, it's clean, well-exposed and has a great composition."
He added, "However, talking about it in purely technical terms is an injustice." Approaching any wild creature without disturbing it is not a trivial matter.
"Having such a meeting is such a privilege, but seeing the moment and the atmosphere so perfectly conveyed in an image is the best thing to do."
Kaitlyn Clark, eight years old, originally from Inverness, won the 2018 Scottish Junior Nature Photographer Award.
She is the youngest winner of the award so far and has won with her image of red squirrels in the woods in Lossiemouth.
Kaitlyn said: "I was really happy to have the picture of a squirrel, they are so cute.
"I named him Peek-a-Boo because that cheeky squirrel actually played a cuckoo with me in the branches.
"I love wild life and love going out with my parents for trips with wildlife." My motto is: "First enjoy the experience and then photos". "
Judge M. Irvine said, "Kaitlyn's painting is well composed with the tree branches that frame the red squirrel.
"There is a beautiful side light in the picture and a feeling of spontaneity and movement."
