The University of Education's directorate, Winneba (UEW), is proposing a revised academic calendar that will help affected students on the Winneba and Ajumako campuses to get to work after a temporary break.

The proposal follows the ongoing unrest of students against the Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the University Board of Directors and at their request for the reinstatement of about thirty staff members, including 23 lecturers sacked.

The action of the students led to the closure of the school for an indefinite period.

Mr. Ernest Azutiga, UEW PRO representative, said management was considering a number of measures to ensure that students do not lose out.

"Looking at the current situation, what has been proposed is in a way a revised timetable that should help the inhabitants of Winneba and Ajumako to make up for lost time," he told Clbad 91.3FM.

At the same time, the National Executive Committee of the Association of University Teachers of Ghana (UTAG) invited the Office of Economic and Organized Crime (EOCO), the Special Prosecutor, the Commission on Human Rights and Justice (CHRAJ) and the Ministry of Justice. Education to investigate certain allegations against the Vice Chancellor.

At a news conference, the union also pledged to work to stop retaliation against lecturers and university staff by the reverend professor. Anthony Afful-Broni, who, according to the union, has dismissed several speakers since taking office last year.

A UTAG press release issued on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 and signed by Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah, National President, said: "The National Executive Committee of the Association of University Professors of the University of Ghana (UTAG) will monitor the situation for a while, find a lasting solution and stop the victimization of lecturers and other staff. If we do not see any end in sight, UTAG will advise. "

At the press conference, UTAG once again called for the resignation of the vice-chancellor and the reinstatement of all the lecturers he suffered through layoffs.

The V-C has recently sacked three high profile speakers, including Dr. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, UTAG Chapter President, Professor Ephraim Avea Nsoh, and Professor Sarpong.

The students of the school made a spontaneous demonstration after the news of the dismissals spread.

Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah told reporters on Tuesday that "victimization and polarization on the EU campus" were in contradiction with the call made by President Nana Akufo-Addo to the VC during his installation last year, "to reconcile all factions regarding the stalemate that prevailed before his inauguration."

"To date, more than 30 people have been fired, suspended or demoted arbitrarily," said Dr. Opoku Mensah.

"Having failed the task badigned to him, Professor Afful-Broni should resign honorably in order to preserve the ETS from further chaos. UTAG demands the unconditional reinstatement of all staff who have been dismissed, demoted or suspended ".
