One of the two people arrested for kidnapping a 14-year-old boy in Kumasi confessed to the crime and begged pardon.
Charles Appiah, 38, unemployed, said he regretted having played a role in this act which, according to him, shamed his family.
Appiah and her 29-year-old accomplice, Manbadeh Fumey, a security guard who allegedly seized the victim at KNUST Junction, were tried on Thursday.
The two suspects were brought to court after their arrest on Monday, when relatives of the JHS 2 student reported to the police that the boy had been missing for several days.
Police said the suspects had lured the boy to his home in Kwamo, near Ejisu, and taken him to Apatrapa, Kumasi.
The calls for help from the victim attracted pbadersby who informed the police and saved him from an isolated two-story building.
Appiah and Fumey are facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and kidnapping, both of which are second-degree crimes.
The prosecution pleaded with the court to be taken into custody by the police for further investigation and the case be referred to circuit court for incompetence.
Magistrate Michael Ocloo, however, placed the two men in custody for them to appear again on April 4.
Even before his application was withheld, Charles Appiah, who had confessed to organizing the kidnapping, had told the court that he regretted the gesture for which he wished to be forgiven.
"I deeply regret my action, I am very sorry for my wife, my children and all my family, I want the Ghanaians to forgive my sins
"By the time the police took me, I had remorse … everyone who knows me should forgive me," he cried.
Meanwhile, two accomplices, identified only as Felix and Augustine, are on the run and the police have declared them wanted.
