According to the election director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the consultation of the former president of the European Commission would allow the Commission to obtain the necessary advice to avoid any problems.
The EC announced on Thursday that it would establish a new register of voters for the 2020 presidential and legislative elections in Ghana.
After the Inter-party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, Commission Chairperson Jean Mensah said that a limited registration of new voters before the district-level elections and a referendum in May 2019 would also have place in all district offices of the country.
According to a statement by the EC, the consensus was reached following an IPAC meeting held on Wednesday, March 27.
Ekosi Sen, chief electoral officer on Asempa FM, said Thursday that such a decision had never been taken at Wednesday's IPAC meeting.
He described the EC president's posture as dangerous and should therefore be ignored.
"The EC posture is very dangerous and if nothing is done, it can be confusing. The current administration of the EC is really struggling to deal with the issues of elections and voting. They should consult Afari-Gyan on how to run such an office, "he said.
His party, he said, called for the immediate withdrawal of the communiqué issued by the EC, for lack of such a consensus.
