The 20th anniversary celebration of Asantehene saw the convergence of the 250 gods revered by traditional believers as as watchers of the kingdom's water mbades.

As part of Asantehene's 20th anniversary celebrations, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, 250 gods of Asante Atano (river gods) were gathered at Manhyia Palace on March 27, 2019 for purification and rituals of 39, thanksgiving.

The event represented a reenactment of the history and relevance of the gods and the role they played in the protection and construction of the Asante Kingdom.

Adomonline.com reported that the occasion was also used to pray for a better future for the Asantehene and Asante peoples.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II led the practice of rites to demonstrate the history of Asante and the source of his strength and protection.

Before his arrival for the fulfillment of the rites, a "gathering" of the 250 deities represented by their priests dressed in white. All Asante clans were also represented.

The slaughter of a number of rams, led by Asantehene, and the shedding of blood on each deity were carried out behind closed doors.

Priests and traditional priestesses are not left out, as some of them supposed to be possessed by spirits have entered moments of frenzy.

The rites of Atano have officially announced the start of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Osei Tutu II, inducted in 1999.
