FP2: Another Ferrari 1-2 in the bag, Vettel fastest

[ad_1]

Ferrari continued to post a good opening pace in Bahrain while Sebastian Vettel got another double for Scuderia.

Vettel scored 1: 28.846 on his second qualifying run, 0.035 seconds faster than teammate Charles Leclerc and six tenths faster than Lewis Hamilton, P3, in the nearest Mercedes.

Valtteri Bottas is tenth behind in P4, while Max Verstappen, sloppy, in 6th place allows Renault's Nico Hulkenberg to sneak into P5.

Kevin Magnussen, Lando Norris, Romain Grosjean and Daniil Kvyat complete the top 10.

Red Bull's Pierre Gasly got stuck in P12, while Alfa Romeo's race was considerably compromised by the water leaks on both cars.

Daniel Ricciardo was a notable surprise in P15 as he struggled to extract the best of his Renault car.

Once again, I * hesitated * to draw the conclusions of this session, but Ferrari achieved a double in this session of 0.552 seconds last year, then locked the first line and won the race. They are clear at 0.568 tonight #BahrainGP ??

While the sun was completely down on the Bahrain International Circuit and the track temperature was considerably lower, conditions in the spotlight made the second session of the year the most representative of qualifying and the race.

Kimi Raikkonen (Alfa Romeo) was hit by cold tires in the early stages as he turned in turn 2 to get ready for his first offensive round of the night.

In advance of the very important qualifying races, it was Bottas who was leading after the opening trades, setting a score of 1: 30.124, which was 0.079s ahead of her over. close challenger Leclerc. Verstappen was third at 0.131 seconds.

But then, Ferrari arrived at the party in qualy sims, with Vettel leading in 1: 28.942 with a new series of attached softwares. Leclerc managed to get close to a tenth of this remarkable effort from the Germans.

Bottas had traffic problems during his first attempt to overthrow Vettel, while Hamilton could only narrow his gap with Vettel to half a second in his first qualifying race.

Bottas' second cleanest race sees him only six tenths of Vettel. Verstappen, meanwhile, in P6, has a fall of seven tenths and was even beaten in P5 by Hulkenberg in the Renault.

Pierre Gasly continued to fight for the pace, going from P13 to P12 after his second warm lap.

Ferrari then resurfaced for a new race in qualifying with new soft tires. Vettel and Leclerc both saw a slight improvement. The benchmark was lowered to 1: 28.846 by the old one, even though he made a wide pbad at the last corner.

Elsewhere, traffic at Alfa Romeo was limited, with both cars on stands and floors removed, with leaks identified.

The long Vettel races did not make the perfect start, as he too was caught on Turn 2 and made a heavy lap.

But, even with this little setback, Vettel and Ferrari seem very eager to repair Melbourne's mistake with a more badured dominating exposure to Bahrain.
