Nigerian man aged 29 sentenced to 20 years in prison for robbery

A district court in Accra sentenced a 29-year-old Nigerian national to a total of 20 years in prison with hard labor, robbery and causing harm.

On the day of the incident, Solomon Okpewho, the convict, allegedly ran into Monica Kreberi, a waitress from Tse Addo, a suburb of Accra, stabbed her and stole her as she was returning home from work.

Solomon was sentenced to 15 years in prison on first charge of robbery and another five years for causing harm.

The sentences must be executed simultaneously.

Solomon pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared in court on Friday March 29, 2019.

The case of the prosecution

Presenting the facts, the police prosecutor, Chief Inspector Samuel Ahiabor, said the Friday On March 22, 2019, Solomon Okpewho jumped on the complainant as she was returning home from work in Tse Addo, Accra.

During a brawl between the two men, Solomon fired a knife and stabbed the plaintiff three times on the left arm that was holding her purse.

Solomon was able to steal the complainant and took away GH ¢ 200.00 in the bag, an Infinix Hot 5 mobile phone and an NHIS card, the prosecution said.

He stated that the complainant had sounded the alarm and that a crowd had forcibly removed him, which had allowed him to stop and deliver him to the police.

In his cautionary statement, he admitted the offense but was unable to reimburse 200 GH ¢.
