Accra, March 29, GNA –
Nana Kwesi Agyekum Dwamena, Head of the Public Service, urged Friday
newly recruited local government services staff to carry out their duties
professionally to ensure efficient service delivery.

He said local
Government services have played a central role in socio-economic development at the local level.

Nana Dwamena said this
at the ceremony in Accra on Friday to transfer 790 staff members from the Land Use and
Space Planning Committee (LUSPA), formerly Urban and Rural Planning
Department at the sub-national level of the public service to the community

government at the local level. It therefore requires that the right
quality staff to do the work are available so that the mandate of the

Nana Dwamena said 81
percent of recruits would come from Metropolitan offices,
Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA), while the remaining 19% would be
sent to the Regional Coordination Councils (RCC) office.

Mr. Dwamena called
the staff to continue working tirelessly like they had done for their former
agency.

Dr. Nana Ato Arthur,
head of the local government department, said that sustainability and
The resilience of MMDAs depends on the integration of development policies and
spatial dimension in national, regional and district level design
interventions with all stakeholders.

In order to obtain
the above objective, the agency ensured that the performance contracts
for RCCs and MMDAs contain indicators that have established and integrated

ongoing awareness of interservice and sectoral collaboration and
Cooperation system (ISCCS) and monitoring of the system integration
departments, "he said.

Dr. Arthur said that
the Local Governance Act 2016 (Law 936) raised the human resources units

He therefore called
on all RCC and MMDA to take note and act accordingly adding that

Welcoming the new
recruits, Dr. Arthur stated that his outfit was determined to provide "

delivery service.

Mr. Lawrence Dakurah,
President and CEO of LUSPA, for his part, said that he was delighted to
the work done by the physical planning department to equip the recruits
with the necessary expertise to help them fulfill their mandate, despite the many
challenges.

He urged the local
Government services must make conscious efforts to meet these challenges.
