Misunderstandings in one of Ghana's universities have pushed the minority in Parliament to launch an unprecedented call.
Misunderstandings have led to violent student protests and closing of the university.
In a statement Friday, lawmakers called on the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis I, to intervene.
Indeed, the man at the center of the controversy, Professor Anthony Afful-Broni, vice-chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, is a reverend father.

Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) believe that Pastor Prof Afful-Broni must withdraw in order for peace to prevail.
They appealed to the papacy to "recall and rebadign the Reverend p. Prof. Afful-Broni … to save the church from further embarrbadment. "

The man of God is accused by those on the other side of the quarrel of being vindictive.
Since Prof. Afful-Broni has reached the highest position of the university, some thirty staff have either been fired or have their ranks reduced.
The common point of these staff members is that they would have sympathy for the predecessor of Professor Afful Broni, Mawutor Avoke, who was ousted in the manner of Rambo.
The new leadership of the university was tasked with restoring peace among staff after the media war.
But six months after the inauguration of the new VC, things collapsed. University students staged a three-day event that resulted in property damage worth GH ¢ 250,000 (US $ 46,728).
The students cited the unfair dismissal of their teachers as the reason for their protest.
The Association of University Teachers of Ghana (UTAG) has declared its support and called for the reinstatement of all dismissed staff members and the resignation of the V.C.
But the management of the university says that the dismissed staff was treated according to the prescribed procedure.
What are the reactions to the call of the minority?
A priest belonging to the diocese of Cape Coast Arch, however, rejected the appeal of the minority.
Rev. Emmanuel Abbey-Quaye said Reverend Prof Afful-Broni had been "outstanding" for the university during his years of service.
In addition, Reverend Abbey-Quaye asked the minority to understand the operation of the Catholic Church before calling the pope in a local affair.
"Since when did the pope become a police officer, badigning and rebadigning Catholic priests around the world," he wrote in a statement.
"The Pope and the Church have a more ambitious agenda and it is in the light of this belief that I consider the appeal made by the Minority Caucus to the Pope to recall and rebadign the pastor." Broni, a misplaced call, "he added.
Meanwhile, Parliament convened Professor Afful-Broni.
