The Passport Office begins issuing 10-year validity books

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that as of Monday, April 1, 2019, it would begin issuing ordinary Ghanaian pbadports with a 10-year term.

The decision last month to extend the validity period of ordinary Ghanaian pbadport booklets from five to 10 years.

In a press release issued on Friday, March 29, the ministry said the validity of diplomatic and service pbadports should not exceed five years.

"Similarly, the pbadports of children under 12 years would be kept for the five-year period," the statement added.

He explained that holders of pbadports valid for five years will not be affected by the new decision until they "expire".

"It should also be noted that current processing fees for pbadport applications will continue to apply to newly introduced ten-year pbadports until further notice," adds the text.

According to the Ministry, the decision to extend the validity of ordinary Ghanaian pbadports from five to ten years is in accordance with the Law on Pbadports and Travel Certificates (as amended), N.L.C.D. 155 of 1967 as well as the recommendations and rules of the Organization of International Civil Aviation (ICAO).
