Roger Federer beat Denis Shapovalov in the semifinals of the Miami Open | ATP Tour

Canada's Denis Shapovalov was eager to play Roger Federer most of his life. At the age of 19, however, he had not scheduled his first game on Friday night at the Miami Open presented by Itau.

The Canadian was nervous at first and was more than Federer, as the triple champion delivered another almost perfect performance at Hard Rock Stadium.

The Swiss slipped on the field and won every game, winning his fifth finals in Miami – his 50^th ATP Masters 1000 – 6-2, 6-4 and will face American John Isner for a chance at 28^th Masters 1000 crown. Defending champion Isner defeated Canadians Felix Auger-Alibadime, 18, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4).

Federer is leading the FedEx ATP Head2Head 5-2 series, including winning the draws in the 2012 BNP Paribas Open final. Isner, however, has not lost a set this fortnight and is 9- 0 in tie-break.

Shapovalov was on the board early, despite the nerves that can keep you from playing your idol for the first time. But the good feelings did not last, since Federer broke the game in the third match when Shapovalov made a setback.

The teen finished the first match with 20 unresolved errors. Federer, meanwhile, took over where he finished with Kevin Anderson on Thursday night, hitting the winners on the cross court and forcing Shapovalov to pbad. The Swiss only hit four unforced errors in the first match.

Shapovalov came back three times from a set-down to reach the semi-finals, including in her quarterfinal bout against American Frances Tiafoe #NextGenATP. And the Canadian wanted to start the second. But Federer broke the game again in the third game and qualified for the final.

The 37-year-old has now reached the highest number of Masters 1000 finals in history with 50 (27-22). The Spanish Rafael Nadal made 49 finals at the prestigious level (33-16).
