Approximately 790 officers of the LUSPA (Land Use Planning and Planning Administration) of the civil service were transferred to the local government service.
Officers are expected to badist the respective MMDAs in carrying out their planning and human settlements tasks as required by several laws.
The staff of LUSPA's physical planning department includes 110 professional planners, 430 technical managers and 103 auxiliary staff in the regions and districts of Ghana.
At the staff handover ceremony on Friday, March 29, 2019 in Accra, Lawrence Dakurah, Director General of LUSPA, observed that "the unfair and hazardous development of our human settlements in Ghana, that it is cities, towns or cities, has been a concern around the world and in Ghana in particular, and concerted efforts are being made to remedy the situation. "
According to him, over the last decade, the Government of Ghana has initiated land use planning and land use planning reforms as part of the Land Administration Project (LAP).
He noted that the reforms had had the expected impact, adding that the transfer of staff had helped to advance the institutional successes of these reforms.
Head of Local Government Service, Ign. Ms. Nana Ato Arthur, in a statement, pointed out that the Physical Planning Department had a direct and important impact on development issues such as agricultural modernization, income generation sanitation, disaster risk reduction, transport, adaptation to climate change, housing, etc.
According to him, "this implies that the sustainability and resilience of MMDAs will largely depend on the integration of development policies and the spatial dimension in the design of interventions at the national, regional and district levels with all stakeholders. ".
He noted that in order to ensure the achievement of the above, indicators relating to the establishment and integration of the Physical Planning Department and all other departments will be included in the performance contracts of the Regional Coordination Councils and MMDAs.
He added that "there will be ongoing awareness of the Collaborative and Interdepartmental Cooperation and Collaboration System (ISCCS) and the follow-up of the integration of departments.
