David Howells is Tottenham Hotspur from start to finish and the pride on his face was clearly visible after putting on the white shirt once again in the new club stadium.
The midfielder went through the Spurs Academy and played nearly 300 games with the senior team of the North London formation during the 1980s and 1990s. He had been there for almost 20 years in total.
At 51, One could have expected Howells to simply play his role on Saturday as Tottenham Legends face his Inter Milan counterparts in front of 41,000 spectators at the second test event of the new Spurs stadium.
This was not the case. While other stars like Klinsmann, Keane, Berbatov and Van der Vaart played about half of the match and Ginola and Gazza made appearances as a camcorder, Howells said that he was there. 39, one of only two players to remain in the field throughout the match. .
Stephen Carr was the other player and at 42, he is almost ten years younger than Howells.
When Howells left the field, he grinned and admitted to having football.londres that he had not planned to stay 90 minutes.
"I did not expect it! I will probably smell it in the morning, but it was just such a night, such a night," he said.
"It was one of those things, you reach my age of 51 and you do not think those days and nights are coming in. You think they're gone.
"You live in memory, so being able to do it again was special, really special."
The midfielder, who was captain of Spurs legends in the second half, admitted that something had hit him in the stadium right away.
"The first thing I noticed was the noise, when we went there and the crowd, even when they applauded the names while they were called." It was like " oh my god it's noisy. "It's so noisy and we all noticed," he said.
Howells spent 12 years in the first Spurs team and spent many days and nights at White Hart Lane. For him, however, despite the size of the new stadium with 62,062 seats, the new pitch was so comfortable.
"We really feel at home, I come here, I know everything is brand new and the quality of the entire building is absolutely phenomenal, but it feels like home" he explained.
"It feels like you've gone home, which is amazing, maybe it's because the trip is the same and you're in the same area, but you have the same feeling. "
He admitted that players were all talking about the stadium before, during and after the match and how he would push the club to the top of the European elite table.
"The idea is that this brings us to the next level and that we feel it will go for sure," Howells said.
"We were talking earlier and Dimitar Berbatov was saying that when a player arrives and sees the installation of the training ground, we are in the lodge with the guys from Inter Milan, he's n & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; There is nothing else.
"Nobody has anything like that and then you have the stadium – everything is there now."
