At its unveiling 30 years ago, the glbad pyramid of Sino-American architect I.M. Pei at the Louvre Museum was despised by Parisians.
Today, it has become as iconic as the Paris museum, home to famous treasures such as the Mona Lisa.
The pyramid celebrated its 30th anniversary last Friday with a huge black and white collage of the French artist JR in the courtyard where the glbad monument is located.
It took four days for some 400 volunteers to glue strips of paper printed on the paving stones of the courtyard, creating an optical illusion of the pyramid plunging into a gulf.
Despite early criticism, the Pei Pyramid is now considered a French monument. It has been the backdrop for fashion shows, film screenings and political rallies, and is also a popular shooting venue.
