AA new report revealed that sbestos kills 5,000 people a year, two decades later, because of banned toxic substances.
The Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) said people were still exposed to asbestos, 20 years after his death in Britain.
An IOSH report indicates that more than 130 companies or individuals were sentenced to shut down in the past year for non-compliance with asbestos regulations.
Asbestos is present in at least 500,000 buildings built before 1999, the report says.
Bev Messinger, CEO of IOSH, said: "It is unacceptable that 20 years after the start of the asbestos ban in Britain, organizations still risk endangering the lives of their employees, their families and the public.
"Thousands of people die every year in Britain from cancers like mesothelioma, while many others are diagnosed with this cancer.
"All of this can be prevented with good health and safety at work. It is time for organizations to wake up and realize how dangerous asbestos is. There are no excuses. "
Dr. Nick Hopkinson, medical director of the British Lung Foundation, said: "Inhaling asbestos dust can cause mesothelioma. Mesothelioma takes a long time to develop and people often develop symptoms 30 to 40 years after exposure to asbestos.
"At the moment, the only treatments available are to slow the progression of the disease and improve the quality of life.
"This devastating disease is preventable, and the dangers of asbestos are well known. His vital businesses are vigilant and take the proper precautions to protect the population from the deadly dangers of asbestos and take urgent action if asbestos was discovered. "
