Warriors Splash Party sinks hornets

The hot hand was contagious for the Dubs as they were preparing for a 137-90 win over the Hornets on Sunday night at Oracle Arena.

With this victory, the Dubs won first place in the Pacific Division, their fifth consecutive title. In addition, the victory was a devastating blow to the Hornets in the playoffs: they lost two and a half games behind the eighth and last playoff spot in the East with just six regular season games to play.

The Dubs fired 21-33 of the distance and the Splash brothers, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined for 11 of those courses, while Quinn Cook made five of his six attempts in a game that the Warriors won by 47 points, their biggest margin of victory of the season.

While the Dubs were known to have made badists, Sunday's offensive interest was fairly consistent throughout the match. The Warriors scored 35, 36, 34 and 32 points in each quarter, respectively, while drawing at least 60% of the points in each of the first three quarters. The Dubs finished the game with 41 badists, their third game with at least 40 badists this season – the rest of the NBA has combined for three games of 40 badists this season.

Thompson started the heat for the Dubs, scoring the first nine points of the team. Curry then started and he and Thompson combined 21 of the team's first 25 points. Each Splash brother would score 12 points in the first quarter, which would have allowed the Dubs to shoot 60% of the floor. Curry would finish with 25 points, a top in his game. His five-point markers marked the eighth consecutive game in which he had made at least five laps.

Curry scored three shots in eight attempts and Thompson was even more efficient in scoring 6 for 9 at the distance for 24 points. Thompson's final score in the match allowed him to reach 1788 points at three points in his career, placing him ahead of Rashard Lewis (1778) to finish 16th in the NBA Top Three.

If the first quarter belonged to the Splash brothers, the second period belonged to Cook. He made his five shooting attempts during the period, including 3-in-3 on 3 points. Cook then scored five points at three points, the highest of his career, and his 21 points scored his eighth game of the season with 20 points.

A 13-point game with just over two and a half minutes to go in the first half, the Dubs opened the match with a 22-2 record that allowed them to get closer to the second and third quarter. Thompson combined three points on three of the four possessions of the Dubs during this period, and the Warriors actually did a treble on three of their first four possessions in the third quarter. The Dubs went 9-for-11 on 3-points in the third quarter only, and the rout was over.

Now at 52-24 years of the season, the Dubs have a one-game advantage at the top of the Denver Nuggets West Conference standings, which are just visiting Oracle Arena on Tuesday.
