A total of 1,167 farmers were registered to participate in the Plantation for Export and Rural Development (PERD) program in Birim North District.
The beneficiaries include 300 women and 867 men from 25 communities in the district.
The district badembly, as part of its efforts to implement this policy, has acquired 125,000 oil palm seeds for distribution to interested farmer groups in the district for the establishment of nurseries Community.
A total of 236,280 polythene bags were purchased and distributed to farmer groups to improve the palm seed nursery.
The PERD program is a decentralized national tree program designed to promote rural economic growth and improve the incomes of rural farmers through the provision of certified improved seedlings, extension services, business support schemes and regulation.
Birim North District (DCE) Director General, Raymond Nana Damptey, revealed this information during his address to the First Regular Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Sixth Assembly of the Birim North District Assembly. in New Abirem.
He said that 32 groups of farmers have been trained and sensitized on the modalities of the program.
He explained that monitoring and extension services have been provided to ensure the success of the program.
Mr. Damptey stated that the plants were at an advanced stage and would soon be ready for transplanting.
He said fertilizers and pesticides would be provided to different nurseries to improve their yields.
