The clown crime prince made his Vegas debut.
The crowd of exhibitors at CinemaCon, the annual trade show convention currently taking place at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, watched for the first time an excerpt from Joaquin Phoenix's "Joker" movie. It is very dark and very dark.
The sequence shows Phoenix as a stand-up missed that slowly loses touch with reality. At one point, he looks in a dressing room mirror and slowly pushes his mouth in a macabre smile. During a conversation with a therapist, the Phoenix character said, "My mother always tells me to smile and put a happy face." The movie looks a lot darker than the typical cartoon movie, not unpacked as did "J lyrics would degrade scenes of an urban hell.
At one point, Phoenix is badaulted by attackers in the subway, at another time, he dances in hot flashes in an abandoned apartment, apparently detached from reality. Based on the short look, director Todd Phillips seems to go for a Scorsese-esque vibe.
"Is it just me," said the Joker, "Or is it getting more and more crazy over there?"
The next superhero movie is a stand-alone film, separate from the DC Universe films in which Jared Leto plays the supervillain. "Joker" looks like a return to the dark days of DC that brought to light a raucous Batman. More recent titles such as "Aquaman" and "Shazam" deviate from this formula, taking a less intense approach.

"It's a tragedy," Phillips told the exhibitors of "Joker". In the trailer, the Phoenix Joker had a different point of view.
"I thought my life was a tragedy, but I realize now that it's a comedy," he says.
Phillips added, "I do not have much to say about the film because it is still taking shape. And I want it to be a surprise. "
