Mateus Fernandes, from MMA, dies from epileptic seizures, 4 heart attacks and a loss of KO

In Brazil, a 22-year-old amateur MMA fighter died of a drug overdose after loss of KO, seizures and four heart attacks.

Jiujitsu's expert, Mateus Fernandes, participated in the first fight of the night at Remulus Fight, an MMA event in Manaus, Brazil on Saturday, March 30th.

According to La Sexta, Fernandes won the first two rounds of the battle, but in the third round he lost consciousness in the cage while he was unable to defend himself against a succession of knocks on the neck and head.

The final punch was a punch, a combination of a hook shot and a punch, which seemed to hit Fernandes so hard that his gum escaped him from his mouth.

In the movie seen by Business Insider, a referee intervenes to dismiss the fight. A doctor examines Fernandes and rolls him to the side in a convalescent position.

Vanderluce Cantuarias, coordinator of a gym where Fernandes has been coaching, told MMA Fighting that the athlete then had epileptic fits. He was then transferred to the hospital, suffered four heart attacks and the doctors were unable to save him.

However, reports suggest that Fernandes' death was the result of drug abuse, rather than damage sustained during the fight.

"It was alleged that Mateus was using drugs before entering the ring, which could have contributed to his death," said Romulo Lobo, organizer of the event, according to La Sexta.

According to Cantuarias, the coroner's report indicated that the cause of death was an overdose.

She told MMA Fighting that she had heard that Fernandes "was using drugs" the night before the fight. "He was sweating a lot, but it's common, the adrenaline of the fight.

"He played well in the first two rounds, but was shaken in the third round and dropped, and then he started having seizures caused by drugs."

Lobo and the Remulus Fight Promotion are providing legal aid to Fernandes' family, according to MMA Fighting.
