Demolish Tema Newtown Police Station – NADMO

Tema, April 3, GNA –
The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) called for
demolition of Tema Newtown Police Station due to structural flaws
makes a vicious death trap for the staff and inmates of the cell.

The police station
located near Tsoshishi Kplejoo, had not seen any major rehabilitation since
it was built in the 1960s, resulting in many visible structural cracks in the
walls, beams and floor.

Mr Ebenezer Cudjoe,
Tema Metropolitan, director of NADMO, revealed this to the Ghanaian news agency.
an interview on Wednesday.

Mr. Cudjoe noted that
his outfit evaluated the structure and found it dangerous, thus calling for
its destruction to save lives.

He added that Mr. Félix
Mensah Anang-La, general manager of Tema Metropolitan, was working on the supply
of a container structure for the staff to move their operations to make
way to the demolition of the police station.

In one
the NADMO team evacuated merchants from a one-storey building,
who had developed serious structural defects, located in Manhean
market.

He said his outfit
received complaints from traders about the state of the building that
contained 24 stores, including 16 on the ground floor and eight on the top
ground.

Mr. Cudjoe stated that
the building that was built about five years ago for the Tema
The metropolitan badembly (TMA) saw its suspended floor fall, the tiles have taken off
off, structural cracks, among others.

He noted that after a
visual evaluation by his team, they decided to evacuate the traders from the
building and curly pending detailed structural integrity
evaluation before a decision is made for demolition or otherwise.

He added that "we have dug
the ground and noticed that the concrete was full of sand, there was not enough
cement in concrete ".
