LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – The badbadination of Nipsey Hussle is the most publicized case of the disturbing trend taking place in the South of Los Angeles: a wave of deadly violence that has lasted for a week.

According to Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore, 26 people were shot dead in the last week of March. Ten of these people died.

The homicide of tonight in the south of Los Angeles represents the last loss of a disturbing outbreak of violence. Since last Sunday, 26 victims have been killed and 10 homicides, leaving 36 families. We will work aggressively with our community to suppress this senseless loss of lives. pic.twitter.com/1fsJXCcflS

The suspect of Hussle's murder is in custody on Wednesday with $ 7 million bail after being captured at Bellflower. But investigations continue for most killings before and after the murder of Hussle Sunday in front of his store, The Marathon Clothing.

"Nipsey Hussle represents the enormity of the lives we have lost," said Moore, who was scheduled to meet with Hussle and other people on Monday to discuss ways to reduce gang violence.

Moore is also reminded of receiving a message Sunday that three people had been shot dead in south Los Angeles, before realizing that Hussle was among the victims.

"And then, I saw the name Nipsey Hussle, and I looked at it again, and I looked at it again, and it was like, I could not believe, "said Moore. "This has resulted in even more severe extra violence. So I'm devastated by that because it's a voice that was trying to help and investing in its community. "

The rise of violence this year is a surprise after a year in which Los Angeles recorded the second-lowest number of homicides in more than 50 years. In 2018, homicides decreased 8.2%, violent crime decreased 4.5%, and property crime decreased 1.8%. The number of homicides was 259, up from 282 in 2017.

"We have seen a recent increase in gun violence south of Los Angeles, [the 77th Street Community Police Station], and that particularly affect African-American men, "Moore said at a press conference Tuesday.

The leader called for the repetition of the stampede that injured 19 people Monday night during a vigil at the site where Hussle was killed.

"I'm just asking you to bring peace," said Moore. "Bring peace and prevent this sacred place from being the scene of further violence."
