A high court in Accra sentenced Anglogold Ashanti to pay 9 million GH to the family of one of their employees who drowned in its underground mine of Adansi in Obuasi in October 2015 .

The plaintiffs claimed that the deceased had died because of the gross negligence of the multinational mining giant.
They claimed that on October 22, 2015, the deceased had been selected from a team of Anglogold Ashanti Ghana and Randgold Resources Limited, which had entered into an investment agreement to redevelop the mine. The plaintiffs claimed that it took about seven hours before the body of the deceased dead was found and deposited at the Anglogold Ashanti hospital morgue.
They claimed that a police report and an autopsy report had subsequently revealed that the engineer had died when his conveyor had been submerged. The autopsy report indicated that the cause of death was drowning "asphyxiation".
According to the plaintiffs, the engineer died "because of the negligence and / or breach of an obligation on the part of the defendant, his servants, agents and badigns".
