Japan fell 3-1 to France in a friendly international match Thursday, just two months away from the 2019 Women's World Cup.
Valérie Gauvin, Eugénie Le Sommer, with a memorable volley, and Kadadiatou Diani lived up to the goals of the World Cup.
Rikako Kobayashi scored for Japan, the 2011 world champions and the 2015 finalists.
This victory helped France to erase the memory of its first friendly match, a 1-0 defeat of Germany in February in what was their only defeat in 12 games.
The only worrying remark for the French was to see goaltender Pauline Peyraud-Magnin, who was making her debut, stretch with a knee injury in the 20th minute.
She was replaced by Sarah Bouhaddi, the guardian of choice.
Gauvin opened the scoring after only three minutes in Auxerre, although doubt remained as to whether the ball had crossed the finish line.
After Kobayashi reached the level of Japan, the star of Lyon Le Sommer made a memorable volley.
It was his 74th goal in 158 games for France
Diani added the third quarter of an hour after the Japanese goalkeeper blocked the ball on the trajectory of the Frenchwoman.
