Fawlty Towers star John Quarmby, 89, confirms John Cleese

The star of the Fawlty Towers, John Quarmby, pbaded away at the age of 89.

The news of the death of the actor was confirmed by Twitter star, John Cleese, who wrote: "Sad to learn of the pbading of John Quarmby, who had played the inspector of the health in the episode of Basil the Rat.

"Handsome guy. I will never forget his expression when he saw the rat sitting in the cookie box. "

Quarmby played the health inspector, Mr. Carnegie, in the unforgettable episode of Basil The Rat in 1979, the last chapter of the second series of comedy.

In the episode, Mr. Carnegie informs Basil (John Cleese) and Sybil (Prunella Scales) that the hotel is substandard, especially after finding two dead pigeons in the water tank .

He warns the duo that he will recommend closing the site to the council if they do not solve the problem within 24 hours.

As the staff tries to rectify the list of mistakes, Basil discovers that Manuel (Andrew Sachs) raises a domestic rat and has pbaded him for a Siberian hamster.

The rat is wreaking havoc during the team effort and when Mr. Carnegie returns, he reappears when waitress Polly (Connie Booth) hands him a box of cookies containing the vermin. Charming.

In addition to playing in Fawlty Towers, Quarmby also made an appearance in the adaptation of A Christmas Carol in 1984, as well as in the 1985 film Thirteen At Dinner.

A native of Liverpool, his career lasted more than 50 years and he played various roles from the 1960s to the 1990s, appearing in many dramas.
