The Avicii family has announced a posthumous album of the late Swedish DJ. At the time of his suicide, in April 2018, at the age of 28, Tim Bergling was about to finish his third album. According to his family's report, he left "a collection of almost completed songs, along with notes, e-mail conversations and text messages on music."

According to the New York Times, Bergling's Universal Music label has asked its usual collaborators to invite superstar names to join the project. The most prominent musician in the album, Chris Martin of Coldplay, had worked with Bergling and had been invited to sing on a song called Heaven.

The Times describes the album as an exploration of "psychedelia, Arab music, Caribbean sounds and more". The editor of Bergling, Johnny Tennander of Sony / ATV, said that the lyrics showed his growth as a writer: "The album was coherent and personal."

Bergling's family also announced the creation of the Tim Bergling Foundation, which will benefit organizations supporting groups involved in mental health and suicide prevention. The net profits of the musician from the album will be donated to the charity.

Bergling started publishing music under the name of Avicii in 2008, before breaking into 2011 with the platinum-certified single Levels in nine countries. He was a key figure in EDM.

He was hospitalized in 2012 for acute pancreatitis caused by excessive consumption of alcohol. At the end of 2016, he stopped his tours to focus on his health. The documentary Avicii: True Stories of 2018 describes Bergling struggling with a long tour and career issues.

SOS, the first single of the next album, will be released on April 10 and will include the voice of soul singer Aloe Blacc. The album will be released by Universal on June 6th.
