James Gunn makes huge decisions about the future of the Marvel and DC Universes as he moves forward in both Guardians of the galaxy 3 and The suicide brigade.
The filmmaker is working on the pseudo-restart of Suicide team First, and now there is news that he decided to bring Viola Davis back as commanding officer of the Amanda Waller squad (via Variety).

While Suicide team The performance of Viola Davis as the ruthless leader of the group was one of the few elements of the film Worlds of DC on which fans and critics have largely agreed.
This is not the only one Suicide team news is happening right now. Gunn and his team also decided that Idris Elba would not replace Will Smith as Deadshot, as originally planned, the site says.

Warner Bros does not comment directly, but Gunn apparently chose to give Elba a new character in the film in order to give Will Smith the opportunity to return to the future as a Deadshot.
Right now, the only characters that will come back from the original movie will be Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and, of course, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie).

Jai Courtney revealed last month that the production of the The suicide brigade will start once Margot Robbie finishes filming his Harley-centric spin-off Birds of prey.
"We are getting ready to shoot in a few months," said Courtney Internal business. "There is not much else I can reveal about it but, yes, you will see Boomerang come back for sure."
