Accra, April 06,
GNA – National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) reiterated
Ghana's commitments to implement the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk
Reduction (DRR).
Sendai
The framework is a voluntary, non-binding, 15-year agreement that recognizes that
the state's primary role is to reduce disaster risk, but this responsibility
should be shared with other stakeholders.
Dr. Grace
Bediako, chief executive of the NDPC, said as a signatory of the Sendai Framework
for DRR, Ghana was determined to work effectively against disaster risk
reduction and strengthening of disaster resilience.
She noted that
There were 25 targets related to disaster risk reduction in 10 out of 17
Sustainable Development (SDG), firmly establishing the role of
risk reduction as a basic development strategy.
Dr. Bediako said
this at a high-level consultation meeting on DRR in Accra.
The two days
meeting on "DRR in Ghana: The future of our society
"Cities", created the platform for stakeholders to discuss the status of
DRR in Ghana, and outlines major strategies for meeting Ghana's obligations
as part of Sendai for DRR.
Dr. Bediako said
the Sendai framework to significantly reduce disaster risk and to
loss of life, livelihoods and health, as well as in the economic, physical, social, social and
cultural and environmental badets.

substantial reduction of disaster risks and losses at global, regional,
national and community levels.

Agyemang-Prempeh called on disaster risk ambbadadors to renew their efforts
to minimize, if not completely, natural disasters as these were
NADMO to lead the coordination of the implementation of the Sendai Framework ".
Mr. Mohammed
Adjei Sowah, president of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, also noted
that there was a lot of work going on, based on the City Strength Diagnostic
Program led by the World Bank after the disaster of 3 June 2015.
