The electricity distribution company (PDS) on Sunday blamed power outages in parts of Accra and surrounding areas.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, PDS badured energy consumers that its engineers were striving to remedy failures and restore power.
"PDS would like to inform its dear customers and the general public that the heavy rainstorm that hit Accra and the surrounding area on the evening of Sunday, April 7, 2019, caused breakdowns in our distribution system. Affected customers should note that PDS engineers are working hard to fix errors and restore power, "the statement added.
Some areas, including the Kwame Nkrumah, Kaneshie and Avenor, were also flooded as a result of torrential rain that lasted about 30 minutes on Sunday night.
At the Kwame Nkrumah interchange, running water ran blocked drains on the roads and left pedestrians with no choice but to cross the water at the knees.
Commercial and private drivers had to make a detour because the side of the interchange leading to the Ring was almost cut off because of the rain.
A death in Awudome after heavy rains on Sunday
A 30-year-old man was found dead in Awudome, Accra after the Sunday evening flood.
A head of the Urban Rescue and Rescue team of the National Organization for Natural Disaster Management on patrol mission told Citi News that they had found the dead body near A drain in the area.
Ambulance and police arrived at the scene a few minutes after the discovery of the body and transported the remains to the morgue.
A resident of the area stated that the deceased had already been seen as a traffic officer.
"I know him in the neighborhood. He is popularly known as Kweku Bonsam. He was directing traffic just around the roundabout because of the water situation. We think that he may have taken alcohol beyond his limit and that he was so carried away by the water up to that point. [where he was found dead]. "
Archbald Cobbinah, director of NADMO for Greater Accra, told Citi News that he responded to the distress call after the residents' call.
He described the incident as unfortunate.
"It's an unfortunate situation. Our heart goes to the family of the deceased. The police came to get the body.
