The values to be badigned are the 10, 20 and 50 cedis notes.
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) is due to release on May 6 newly printed cedi notes with secure features.
The new 10, 20 and 50 cedi notes will be accompanied by what the central bank has called "improved sustainability and legibility".
The cause of the change is unclear, but the BoG said in a statement issued on Monday, April 8 that the decision to upgrade the three Cedi names with enhanced security features was tailored to "technological change."
The main design elements – denomination colors, dimension notes and background images, among others – said the central bank, will remain unchanged in the recently improved cedi notes.
"The existing and improved ticket series will be going around," he said.
What's up?
The three denominations will have an optically variable magnetic image (spark live), a reinforced security thread (Rapid), a more visible watermark and an improved iridescent band on the back of the notes.
Optically Variable Magnetic Image (SPARK LIVE): Is it a brilliant image with the changing colors of cowrie shells on the GH? 10, from the star on the GH? 20 and cocoa on the GH? 50. When the note is tilted, a shining line between cowries, stars and cocoa pods rises and falls. The color of the function also changes from gold to green when it is tilted.
New Improved Security Thread (RAPID): This is a shiny broken line with a movement that runs through the bank note from top to bottom. It is continuous when viewed against the light. When the note is tilted, a star expands and contracts while the denomination value remains stationary.
Most important watermark: This is the image of Tetteh Quarshie with a cocoa pod that has been made more visible in the star area of the ticket. It becomes visible on both sides when it is seen against the light. The naming value is also visible in the watermark area.
Improved iridescent band at the back of the ticket: There is a golden band with gold bars at the back of the bill that extends up and down. We can see more clearly when the note is inclined against the light
Meanwhile, BoG urged Ghanaians to "know the cedi" and to make sure that it is handled properly by keeping it clean.
