The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) expressed hope that the impending dialogue between the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) on ways to ridding the political system of self-defense groups will be fruitful.

Since President Akufo-Addo convened the meeting, the two main political parties have discussed the terms of the dialogue until they have recently decided to allow the National Peace Council to act as mediator. .

Speaking at the publication of the CNCE's report on political vigilance, Commission President Josephine Nkrumah said the meeting should lead to concrete actions to tackle the threat.

"We are also aware of the imminent meeting between the two main political parties, as indicated by the National Peace Council. We wish to take this opportunity to express our greetings to our sister institutions and wish them good luck in opening this process. "

"The NCCE will continue to do its advocacy work. We will invite all political parties to sit down at this table in good faith to begin the process of dissolution of the vigilance groups of political parties. She can no longer tolerate the dismantling or the negative aspect of militancy, she noted.

The meeting scheduled for tomorrow, April 9, 2019, will begin at 10 am at the Central Hotel, near the British High Commission in Accra.

The National Peace Council, the mediator, chose the date and place of the meeting.

The Peace Council should present a number of proposals to both sides to enable them to define the modalities for the dissolution of the various groups of political self-defense groups in the country.
