Macao (MNA) – The Health Bureau (SS) estimates that about 94 percent of Filipino domestic workers residing in Macau are vaccinated against measles, a level similar to that of residents aged 20 or older.

The conclusion was announced Monday by the Bureau after conducting a measles antibody badysis on a total of 107 Filipino domestic workers who had volunteered to participate from April 1 to 6. All participants were women aged 23-62.

According to the test results, 98 (or 91.6%) tested had antibodies against the disease, six (5.6%) had none, and three (2.86%) were unknown.

Overall, the Bureau estimates that 87.7 percent Filipino housewives aged 20 to 39 are vaccinated against measles, while another 100 percent 40 years old and over to have immunity against infection.

In the first half of 2018, similar tests carried out on residents of Macau showed that the adult population immunized against measles is around 100 percentalthough protection against the disease in the population aged 30 to 39 is slightly lower.

The Bureau stated that the low level of immunity of the young population was due to the absence of natural measles infection.

The SS further baderted that although the possibility of individual cases and collective infection is not excluded, the latest findings indicate that the risk of measles outbreak is low.

The new case was a 21-year-old male resident who had been vaccinated against the disease.
