Former National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress and Opposition, Kofi Adams
The former national organizer of the Democratic National Congress, KDC Adams rejected calls by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), under which Ghanaians would not vote former President John Mahama to general elections of 2020.
The NPP on Sunday urged Ghanaians to no longer make "the biggest mistake" in turning over the country's resources, its future, to John Mahama and his CDN.
The ruling party accused the former Mahama government of almost anchoring the economy by pushing oil-rich Ghana from 14 percent growth to 3.4 percent.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Sunday, April 7, 2019, the party's secretary general, John Boadu, said that Mahama had nothing new to offer Ghanaians, except for the incompetence and corruption he witnessed.
"Say no to a redenominated candidate (Mahama) because he never changes. Mahama – the value is the same. More importantly, the NDC alternative under Mahama is still scary, "he said.
But Kofi Adams, in a strong rebuttal, said he prefers a redenominated Mahama that will have a better and stronger value than a depreciated president, Akufo Addo.
"Until 2007, many Ghanaians had not heard of the redenomination, it is the NPP who said that the successful redenomination of the Cedi was one of their best achievements. So, if the redenomination is good and Mahama is a redenominated person, that's fine. I prefer a renamed Mahama that will carry a better and stronger value than a depreciated leader. If John Boadu had said that Mahama was depreciated, it would have worried me a lot. But if he says that Mahama is redenominated, it means he's even stronger now and he'll do a better job. John Boadu does not understand the word redenominated. "
Kofi Adams added, "The NPP did not want us to do a proper badysis. This is what they presented to John Boadu at the press conference to turn the debate into a political football. But we will not follow him, we will continue to tell the truth to Ghanaians about things that affect their lives. "
