NDC and NPP agree to dissolve self-defense groups

Accra, April 9, GNA –
The National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party agreed to
initiate deliberations to dissolve groups of security guards operating within
political parties or for political purposes.

The insurance of the
the political parties were included in a statement signed by Mr. Samuel Ofosu
Ampofoh, NDC President and Freddie Blay, President of the NPP
and Professor Nana S.K.B. Asante, Member of the National Peace Council Board of Directors
(APN) in Accra during the first dialogue with political parties to put an end to the
vigilance.

Both policies
the parties have agreed to prohibit the ownership, hiring or use of such groups
by political parties and members and to cooperate with public bodies
and the actors of the total eradication of political vigilance in the
country.

The parties also
committed to exploring other processes related to the elimination of
vigilance.

Nana Asante said the
Political parties agreed that vigilance was against the will of the country.

He said that the NDCs were
the idea that it should be the eradication of "political vigilance in all
its ramifications ", while the NPP was of the opinion that the focus should be on
"Vigilance of political parties in all its ramifications".

The two political parties responded to a call from President Akufo-Addo
his State of the Nation address, in February 2019, aimed at eliminating
vigilance.

Referring to
the violence in the by-elections in Ayawaso West Wuogon, Chereponi, Talensi,
Atiwa, the president said that Ghanaians were victims of too much violence
by-elections and that it was time to end the threat.

and Development, Mr. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, Director of Communications for Nuclear Power Plants, Mr.
John Buadu, NPP Secretary General, Sammy Awuku, NPP National Youth
Organizer, Gary Nimako, member of the NPP communications team.
