Australia supports life transformation projects in seven countries in West Africa

Accra, April 9, GNA – The
The High Commission of Australia in Ghana provided a million
dollar grants (approximately ¢ 3.7 million) as part of its direct badistance program
(DAP) to some NGOs and civil society organizations in West Africa
Subregion.

Financial support
regards the implementation of 20 development projects transforming life in seven
West African countries.

The beneficial
organizations were selected from 240 applicants from Ghana, Liberia,
Sierra Leone, Senegal, Togo, Ivory Coast and Mali.

At launch and
training session of the 2018/2019 Direct Assistance Program in Accra on Tuesday,
Andrew Barnes, Australian High Commissioner, said since the creation of
aid program in 2004, a total of A $ 22 million had been disbursed
spent on projects in 122 countries around the world.

Projects funded
focused on providing interventions that transform the lives of the most vulnerable
people in society, including; children, women and people with disabilities.

Mr. Barnes said it
funded and supported projects that have had a great impact and that have provided quality and
tangible development results for disadvantaged communities.

This year's help
This program would focus on supporting projects in the areas of water and sanitation, mental health and mental health.
the health and empowerment of women, which would be implemented within one year.

Some projects
allocated for funding this year include; Alumni Association of Ghana, Australia

Support Unit for Victims of Domestic Violence and Victims (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police

fair justice support to organize workshops on the skills of the head

supports the NGO W.E Can Lead, founded by former CNN presenter Isha Sesay,
build an ICT lab capable of managing skills and building youth capacity
girls in Sierra Leone.
