Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia has hinted that he could sign for the Major League Soccer club, DC United.

The current 33-year contract expires at the end of the season and United has not chosen to extend it for a further 12 months, which means it should go on a free transfer this summer.

Last month, Ecuadorian father, Luis Valencia, confirmed that his son would leave Old Trafford and that Arsenal was one of four teams interested in an agreement.

The Gunners are looking for a defensive cover during the summer transfer window and with Unai Emery working on a tight budget, Valencia would be a cheaper alternative than other targets.

But Valencia has hinted that his future could be alongside his former United teammate Wayne Rooney in MLS.

On Tuesday, Valencia retweeted and liked the message of a supporter who quotes a tweet in a report from Ecuador, in which we read: United States. Two-year contract about to be finalized with D.C. United. "

Valencia has only played eight appearances with United this season and has struggled for several months to recover from a calf injury.

The 33-year-old is in his 10th season at United after signing a 16-million-pound Wigan Athletic contract in 2009.
