According to the Turkish Fanatik newspaper, Trabzonspor is expected to hold talks with Leeds United on the future of striker Caleb Ekuban in the coming days.
Ekuban, 25, has been in vivid form for Trabzonspor this season – on loan from Leeds. The report states that he has in his contract a clause of £ 900,000 to make the move permanent.
Marcelo Bielsa felt that he had been deemed surplus to the needs of last summer after only two goals in 22 games in 2017-18. In Turkey, he scored eight goals in total and created three more – playing wide, front and in role 10.
The excellent form of the former Chievo star even saw him win the Ghana national team, where he scored goals against Kenya and Mauritania in his first two caps.
The need to engage in seated talks however seems odd, as the report claims that Ekuban told his lenders that he wished to join them permanently. Fanatik says that Ekuban could be signed and immediately sold for profit.
Ekuban is definitely worth keeping. His training at the highest level of Turkish football is something that simply can not be ignored by Trabzonspor, nor by Leeds. The £ 900,000 clause can not be canceled and can only be activated by the Turkish side, if it wishes.
Trabzonspor chairman Ahmet Agaoglu told NTV Spor last week that he would let Leeds keep Ekuban for £ 10m. This would see Trabzonspor sign Ekuban and resell it immediately on the side of Elland Road.
If Leeds can claim this price at a more reasonable price, perhaps it will be worth preserving.
