TThe clocks are back, county cricket is back and we know the finalists of the FA Cup, but for golf fans, the Masters is the real beginning of the British summer.

The lighter evenings and Augusta National radiating across the TV with all its plumage and fancy air are an invitation to break the mud from your spikes, scrape the dirt off your grooves and get you to workout to eliminate these winter spider webs.

The 83rd edition of this exclusive tournament announces it as a party for all ages (I know it is said every year).

The biggest story on this side of the Atlantic at least is Rory McIlroy's quest to finish the Grand Slam career with a Masters win after winning the US Open, the Open Open and the USPGA before.

McIlroy finished in the top 10 at every PGA Tour debut this season. He was the first player to beat Magnolia Lane with this form since Phil Mickelson in 2004. He then won his first Masters that week.

Augusta has always lived up to Rory's reputation with his stratospheric balloon flight and prodigious distance. Plus, his consistency with his scorers clubs and on the Greens means that he could not be better placed.
