These music boxes may be small, but they have a huge impact on the families who use them.
The Music Memory Box was created to use photographs, objects and music to help people with dementia to remember their past.
The box is programmed to play certain songs badociated with various goods and photos. When one of the objects is placed in the center of the box, a sensor triggers the speakers of the box so that it plays the piece that corresponds to the object.
Designer Chloe Meineck, age 28, explains that the experience of her great-grandmother's dementia was the inspiration of the box. Whenever Meineck visits the elderly person in his retirement home, the woman still does not recognize her. However, hearing some of the songs, Meineck's great-grandmother would suddenly begin to remember heartfelt stories of her past.

Meineck developed the first case in 2011 while she was attending a 3D printing course at the University of Brighton. After completing her studies a year later, she designed several dozens of prototypes to send to families for testing – and they have apparently achieved remarkable results.
Monica Garrity, 74, told SWNS that she and her husband Steve, who has dementia, had started using the box in 2017 to help her remember the events of their marriage. Since then, they use it regularly.

"We were able to connect again, it's great," says Monica. "In general, he does not communicate with me, but when the music plays, he hums and stretches out his hand to grab mine. This brings us back to when we got married.
In addition to receiving dozens of awards for its design, Meineck recently organized a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of the first batch of memory boxes.
In two weeks, she was able to raise the necessary funds – and she is now preparing to send the first batch of pre-ordered boxes.
