Ashigbey said this at the inaugural Ahmed Hussein-Suale Memorial Lecture organized by the United Press for Development network in Accra. The conference was part of the activities marking World Press Freedom Day, scheduled for May 3, 2019, to be held in Ethiopia.

Ashigbey said the journalists themselves did not take their problems seriously, adding that "journalists promote the activities of other institutions and individuals, but they leave their own affairs rotten".
